Last month, we went to visit Emily, our sweet daughter and personal “dive instructor” in the Keys,
for lots of hugs and to finish Jon’s SCUBA certification, only available to those 10 years old and up. He qualified there, had finished his 15 hour online PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) course, and was ready to go down under.
He was successful at accomplishing all the tasks in the pool and just as easily did so in his 4 open water dives in the ocean. How do you do this??
Board the dive boat, the awesome Giant Stride,
listen to your instructions
prepare your gear
put on your gear
follow your instructor
walk to the back of the boat,
prepare to make your “giant stride,”
jump in, and give another big smile!!
Being neutrally buoyant, suspended evenly in water,
following your leader well,
and waving to your mom from below are all parts of a successful dive!
Totally right up his alley! Katherine joined him for several of the dives
while Richard enjoyed being at the helm with the amazing mentorship of Captain Jason.
He made the trip back to the dock enjoyable for all!
With all now SCUBA certified, we visited the History of Diving Museum on our day off.
So much great information on the beginnings of underwater diving…and with lots of love!
We had a wonderful time staying at a campground
in a camper down there…almost as cozy as the boat!
David and Rick enjoyed diving as well.
A beautiful week in the beautiful Keys
and Jonny Coconuts found something to keep him busy when he wasn’t diving.
